One thing that characterizes childhood is episodes of bedwetting that often become an embarrassing topic for parents to pull up once the kids grow older. Even though it might be funny once the stage is passed, yet, when it happens, it can be quite uncomfortable for both the parents and the children as well. Waking up at random hours to change the bedspreads doesn’t sound like fun, right? Doing this on a daily basis can put the entire family in a stressful and frustrating position It would be really embarrassing for kids to tell someone that they bed wet. What could turn off your and your child’s mood like bedwetting? Does your child wake up every morning soaked in urine and you stand helpless? Then this post is for you. You could have tried many options, but nothing really worked. So, here is how you can stop bedwetting in your child.
What Is Bedwetting?
It is also known as nighttime incontinence or nocturnal enuresis. It is an involuntary urination while sleeping after the age of 4 to 5. Bedwetting before the age of 7 is not a matter of concern because your child is still developing nighttime bladder control.
What Are the Causes?
There are many causes for bedwetting like Your child has a very small bladder that may not be developed enough to hold urine produced during the night. And also your child might fail to recognize that the bladder is full especially when they are in deep sleep. During childhood, there may be a hormonal imbalance that leads to the lesser production of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) to slow nighttime urine production.
If your child has a urinary tract infection this can make difficulty in your child to control urination. Sometimes bed-wetting can be due to sleep apnea, in which the child’s breathing is interrupted during sleep Bedwetting can be the first sign of diabetes. Other signs include passing large amounts of urine in one go, feeling thirsty, fatigue and weight loss in spite of a good appetite. The muscles that control the process of urination and stool elimination are the same. So if your child has constipation for a long-term, these muscles can become dysfunctional and lead to bedwetting. You should consult a doctor if your child wets bed even after 7 years of age and if bedwetting occurs with pain while urinating.
How To Stop Bedwetting?
In most of the children, bed-wetting gets resolved as they grow. If your child is not really worried about bedwetting then it requires lifestyle changes like avoiding caffeine and limiting fluid intake in the evening. If lifestyle changes are also not successful then they require additional treatments. The underlying causes of bedwetting should be treated which would be the best option.
